Where were you when John Lennon died?

my favorite pic of him

It is one of those things people say "where were you when?"
I can remember when my daughter asked me where I was when John Lennon died.
She was in her Beatles stage.  I belive she was around fourteen years old and a certain math teacher at her school probably had something to do with said Beatles stage.
So she came home from school one day and asked me...
"Mom, where were you when John Lennon died?"
I said "I know exactly where I was.  I was on vacation in Florida with your Dad."
She continued "What did you do?"
I continued "We were on vacation.  We were sad.  But what could we do?"
Thirty years ago.  That is unreal to me.  I was twenty-two.  I didn't have any children.  I was working as a secretary in an insurance agency.  We had been married for a couple of years and had bought a house that we were working on.  Each year, the day after Thanksgiving, we left for Florida and went to St. Pete Beach.  We spent each day the same.  Sleeping in, laying on the beach and swimming, having lunch, laying on the beach and swimming.  Taking naps, going to dinner and clubs, drinking in the evenings, walking the beach to the pink building.  Doing the same thing again each day.  And on one of those days, John Lennon was shot.

Here are the words to one of my favorite John Lennon songs...
Happy Christmas (War is over).

So this is Christmas

And what have you done

Another year over

And a new one just begun

Ans so this is Christmas

I hope you have fun

The near and the dear one

The old and the young

A very merry Christmas

And a happy New Year

Let's hope it's a good one

Without any fear

And so this is Christmas

For weak and for strong

For rich and the poor ones

The world is so wrong

And so happy Christmas

For black and for white

For yellow and red ones

Let's stop all the fight

A very merry Christmas

And a happy New Year

Let's hope it's a good one

Without any fear

And so this is Christmas

And what have we done

Another year over

And a new one just begun

Ans so this is Christmas

I hope you have fun

The near and the dear one

The old and the young

A very merry Christmas

And a happy New Year

Let's hope it's a good one

Without any fear

War is over over

If you want it

War is over

Now...

Great photo of him. Can you believe it has been that many years? Watched the footage on the news in Central Park in front of the Dakota the other night. Soooo many people, wow.
