I came home on Wednesday night and started cooking. I made two and a half pounds of sloppy joes just to have on hand. I made a cheese ball for Christmas Eve. (Pictured in previous post.) Then I made two cakes. One cake, Chess Cake, I've been making for years. The second cake, a pound cake, called "Golden Eggnog Loaf," was a brand-new recipe that I found in the newspaper. My Chess Cake turned out just the way it is supposed to be.

"Now we're cooking." |
Sigh.
Here is my recipe for Chess Cake (a la Laura P.)
Grease and flour a 9x12 metal cake pan
Mix together: 1 stick butter, 2 eggs and a box of yellow cake mix. Pat into bottom of pan. (butter hands well.)
Then mix together 1 8 oz pkg of cream cheese, 1 egg, 1 t. vanilla and a box of powdered sugar. Spread this on top of first layer and bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.
This is very rich and sweet. Cut in small squares. Some people call this recipe "Chess Squares." I used my Black and Decker mixer and about burned it up on the first layer. I may be about ready for a Kitchen Aid.
This is my tale of two cakes.

Hey they look good - you'll never know. sandie
Egg nog pie is especially yummy, ever had that? Your chess cake looks delish...your egg nog cake, while I'm sure was wonderful tasting, looks like most of my creations! Hee hee!
Your Chess Cake sounds decadent! I've eaten so many sweets and pastries and chocolates over the last two weeks that I am surprised I can even look at a cake, let alone salivate while reading a blog post about them. Yet... :D:D:D
