I'm jonsin' for some falsies

NOT THAT KIND!  I think I'd like to get some acrylic nails.  I have nails.  I can grow them out.  But there is all of the maintenance and upkeep.  If you polish, you have to take it off and do it again.  When I was younger, even when my two children were babies, I had beautiful fingernails.  I would do my nails in the evening after I had put them to bed.  And in those days, I was a stay-at-home mom and my house was immaculate- so I was doing a lot with my hands, but still managed to have nice nails.
I've only had acrylics once.  That was four years ago and I had them from February until May.  Then they started driving me crazy.  I let them grow out in the end and bought the harsh remover stuff and took them off myself at home.  It took a year for my nails to recover.  I swore I would never do it again.  But for some reason, I'm jonsin' for them.  My gal-pal Jennifer says no.  She said "if you do it it will destroy your nail bed."  Sigh.  That is probably true.  My mother had fake nails for years and then got a horrible infection.  Apparently, the shop she was going to wasn't certified and she got some kind of a germ.  She is known for being dramatic but she said the infection was so bad that her arms almost fell off.
What do you think?  Should I?

NO! Don't do it! I heard from my sister there is a new kind of salon polish that is basically really REALLY hard nail polish. They heat it on....and the girls at Janko's where she works swear by it. The polish is so durable regular acetone nail polish remover won't take it off. People love this polish!

I think you've answered your own question. If that's your hand and nails in the photo, they are lovely. Go treat yourself to a manicure and use your own nails. That way you get the special treatment without the aftermath of "falsies".
Pick a pretty color.....

HA HA! You make me sound like a naysayer.
Do it if you want to. We can go to VIP nails and get pedis as well. I just love your hands and think they are beautiful now!

No way would I even consider it girl! One of my top reasons is where I seen a clip on a news show a few months ago where a woman had something like that done to her nails and now she can't even have anything touch her hand. She is in severe pain and has tried everything to to fix it. Google it!

To me it's just not worth it! Well, that's my 2 cents worth!

Hugs,
Angela

Hi Cheryl, I've worn them for years and I have never gotten an infection. I love them . . I don't like the way my hands look without them and then working with people all the time, you want them to look nice. Good luck with your decision, Sandy:O)

I've been wearing sculpted acrylics for nearly 10 years and I LOVE them.

BTW - - - your REAL nail is under there, the acrylic coating is just so much stronger.

They are wonderful if you intend to KEEP wearing them. If you want to take them off, go and let the technitian soak them off - - - that way there isn't very much damage to your real nail.

But, if you intend to go every two weeks for a fill, you can keep them on indefinitely - - - like I do.

In my opinion...don't do it...I think the fact that you have doubts about it, answers the question for you. I had acrylic nails for almost a year...it was expensive both with my time and money...I'll never do it again!
