Doubt (no spoilers)

I've been driving everyone crazy wanting to see this movie. This past Saturday night, Doug and I went to see it.

Meryl Streep plays the part of the evil Sister Aloysius Beauvier. Amy Flynn plays the part of the impressionable Sister James.

The part of Father Flynn is played by my new love-interest Philip Seymour Hoffman. (I'm in love with his brain.) I recently saw this movie:

The most outstanding member of the cast in my opinion was Viola Davis who plays the mother of Donald Miller who is the first black child to attend the Catholic school. Mrs. Miller put Donald into the school because of societal pressures he was under in public school. She also feels that if he comes out of a Catholic school, he might be able to get into a "better" high school, and ultimately, college.
The story is set in 1964 and I felt that the film has an outstanding portrayal of that time period. I didn't attend Catholic school, but I was six years old in '64 and some of my earliest memories were sparked by viewing this film.
The movie was nominated for five Academy awards. This website has an excellent explanation of the word "doubt," from the Catholic perspective. I don't want to spoil it for those of you who haven't seen the film, but write to me and let me know what you think.

I have not seen it but I do want to. I will have to make a point to now.

I don't think the adjective "evil" is the best one to associate with Sr. Aloysius. She's a no-nonsense, my-way-or-the-highway type person in many respects, but she's not preying on anyone. Her ultimate goal is to keep students on the straight and narrow so they stay out of jail and out of hell -- to produce good citizens.

FYI, you have a "broken" URL in your last PP. Should be http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/05141a.htm for the link to New Advent. You have 2 http's in your coding.

If you'd like info on the Sisters portrayed in DOUBT, go to www.scny.org -- the Congregation of the Sisters of Charity of New York.
