Makes me feel warm

Tonight I made a cup of tea to sip as I sat before our first fire of the season.  It is raining and in the low forties this evening in Southern Indiana.  Supposed to get down to thirty on Friday night.

There is something about a clean, tidy kitchen lit by the light of the stove.  Something about it that has always tugged at my heart.  Makes me feel warm inside.

I've always loved the words to John Denver's "Back Home Again..."

There's a fire softly burning
supper's on the stove...
It's the little things that make a house a home

I can't bear to hear that song or to even sing it to myself, even if it is inside of my head and not out loud without tears coming to my eyes.

Yes, I agree Cheryl. I loved John Denver! His was the first concert I ever went to. I was 15 years old. It was in Anaheim California, and his voice send shivers up my spine still today. I usually hear people say that they hate it when daylight savings time ends and it gets dark early. I love it though. I love to see the soft glow of lights seen when looking from outside. I love walking in to the house and smelling that supper's on the stove! And the fires! Oh how we love our fires!!!

It's true...nothing better indeed. I played his albums all through the seventies, and beyond. That song, in particular, always got to me...right to the core.
Ambiance is a wonderful thing and something that always feeds the soul.

Dave used to love listening to John Denver. Something about a tidy kitchen lit with a small light definitely gives you a "good" feeling inside, add some coffee to that and I'm all good. Blessings, Sandy:O)

I'm with you on this one, too. "Sometimes this old farm feels like a long-lost friend." Since my folks are gone, I get tears with that line, especially. I am a homebody at heart. And a true romantic about "home and hearth."

This really makes me miss John Denver! It's a dreary cold rainy very very very windy day here and this post gives me a warm feeling.

You are my long lost twin! I adore a clean kitchen with the stove light on, faint smells of supper lingering, and, for me, an evening cup of coffee to take to the living room. And John Denver...good lord I loved his music!

Whenever I read your posts about sitting around the fire, it brings back so many great memories.

No you did not. I JUST referenced that song on my blog this morning! It's one of my favs...oh girl..I know EXACTLY what you speak of. Last night, the house was all tidy, and just a little light on. I went in to get an apple and it seemed so stinking cozy. I do have to say - I like the first few cold weeks of the weather change. Cozy with a capital C.
